Early this year one of our long-term volunteers, Zoe, as well as friends, organised a fundraiser and raised money to send to the Rabuor Self Help Group near Kisumu, western Kenya. Funds were handed over during
my visit in April and Tony Odek, director of the group has now updated us with progress on the poultry farming operation started up with the funds.
They have constructed a secure, free-range area and purchased feeds, chickens, vaccines and equipment as well as employing a caretaker. There are 50 chickens, most around 2 to 3 months old now and by the time they are producing eggs and offspring the start up funds will be depleted and the operation will be sustainable, providing meat, eggs and income for the widows looking after the children.
